The DIMACS Challenge (Clique, Coloring, and Satisfiability) Call for Abstracts Due Date: January 15, 1993 (Change from December 31, 1992) As part of the DIMACS Computational Challenge, we would like to encourage groups and individuals interested in taking part in the Challenge to submit short (2-5 page) abstracts describing their work. These abstracts will serve a number of purposes: 1) The Challenge Committee will be reviewing these abstracts and be providing comments on the work. These comments will include the identification of overlapping or complementary research and the possibility of alternative research directions. These comments should not be taken as "instructions" (like those referees make regarding submitted papers) but as helpful advice. 2) The Coordinator will be reviewing the abstracts to identify activities that will most help the participants over the remaining eight months of the Challenge. 3) The abstracts will be available for ftp (with author's permission) for others to get a picture of the ongoing research. If you are interested in participating in this round of abstracts, please follow these directions: 1) Submissions should be made via electronic mail. 2) Submissions should ideally be in TeX, LaTeX, or AMSLaTeX. If this format is not possible, submissions should be a straight ASCII file. Such submissions may be edited slightly to permit inclusion in a TeX source. Postscript submissions are possible, but should only be used if there is no other alternative. 3) Pictures should preferably be embedded as LaTeX picture commands. If it is necessary to include other types of figures, we are equipped to handle EPIC, EEPIC, and psfig type figures. 4) Abstracts should be submitted to challenge@dimacs.rutgers.edu with a subject of: ABSTRACT: Clique ABSTRACT: Coloring ABSTRACT: Clique and Coloring ABSTRACT: Satisfiability and so on depending on the problem(s) addressed. 5) Abstracts should contain a very short (2 or 3 sentence) description to facilitate classification. 6) One electronic mail address should be provided for communication regarding the abstract. 7) If you do not wish the abstract to be made publicly available, please include the line *** NOT TO BE INCLUDED FOR FTP *** at the beginning of the document. Such abstracts will be reviewed by the committee, but will not be included in the ftp-able document. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Note that not participating in this round of abstracts does not preclude later participation, nor does participation now require any future participation. Mike Trick Carnegie Mellon/ DIMACS Challenge Coordinator P.S. There may have been some problem with my mailing list. If this is your first communication from me (and you asked to be placed on the list before December 1), there have been a number of updates that are available from dimacs.rutgers.edu in the directory pub/challenge. All update files have an extension .UPD. In addition, please contact me at challenge@dimacs.rutgers.edu to let me know if you did not get those updates via the mailing list.
