LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN DISCRETE MATHEMATICS CONTENT MAP FORM AUGUST 1994 A.1. TITLE OF DATABASE FILE: F3mPCTangrams A.2. TITLE OF ACTIVITY: Tangrams A.3. CATEGORY: Logic A.4. SUB-CATEGORY: Puzzles A.5. PERSON CREATING FILE:Written by: Paula Farrenkopf also Dale Foster Typed by: Bro. Patrick Carney B.1. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY: Using tangrams, students review basic operations and derive number of geometric figures based on using different tangram parts. Students complete worksheets which tell them to classify types of figures that make up the tangram and then need to calculate the area of different tans based on the given areas of a specific tan. Depending on the level of the student, they calculate the length of each side, the perimeter, the percent each tan takes up, the fractional parts of each. Students then need to determine how many different squares can be made with different tans. B.2. RESOURCES USED FOR ACTIVITY: tangrams, worksheets B.3. REFERENCE FOR ACTIVITY: Numerous books C.1.
